Fancy Boxed Trick-or-Treats and James Franco in a Croptop

Paris bakeries

Day 144

There are certain holidays we miss when we’re traveling. Some, like Christmas, you can creatively replicate, while others you just can’t. Halloween in one of those can’ts. It’s true we saw some fragments of Halloween in Paris, some little kids dressed up on the street, some big kids using it as an excuse to be scantily clad. But it’s not the hardcore kind of Halloween we were used to in Canada and the U.S. In an effort to feel a little of that familiar Halloween-love, we went in search of our kin. Where else do you find them, but at the Hard Rock Cafe.

Paris

The Hard Rock delivered with Halloween decorations, the wait staff in full creepy getup, and spooky smoke being periodically pumped over our plates every half an hour or so. Our waiter, from Wasaga Beach, Ontario, who I was told by my daughters, looked exactly like James Franco in a crop top. So, there was that.

Instead of free candy from strangers, we opted for a box of French pastries–which does not suck or absolutely does, depending on which person in our family you’d ask.

This year trick or treating was replaced with picking out pastries in Parisian bakeries.

The treats came packaged in a box like this.

Next year we’ll be back to our usual costumes, pumpkin carving, and mountains of  little candies.
