Day 141
International Chocolate Day seemed an appropriate day to treat our taste buds to the International Chocolate convention. The Salon du Chocolat is any chocolate lover’s dream come true. Imagine this–the rarest and finest chocolates brought from every corner of the world all at one’s sampling-eager fingertips. More than 220 international chocolatiers gathered on two floors of a convention center to present their finest creations and compete for prestigious awards. There were 700 chocolatiers, as well as pastry makers, confectioners, famous chefs, pastry chefs and cocoa experts who would treat visitors with chocolate recipes. Clearly the place you want to be in the event of a zombie apocalypse, there were samples everywhere. I ate so many that my iron stomach actually started to hurt and I had to dilute my sugar overload with a salmon bagel and water. Sometimes sacrifices have to be made.
In case you do have to step away from the samples for a brief moment, as there are other things to amuse. There are huge chocolate fountains, high fashion made of chocolate, cocoa and pastry shows, chocolate liqueur bars, mousse bars, hot chocolate bars, a chocosphere, chocoland, chocolate cocktails, bookshops, workshops, shows or traditional music and dance from countries where cocoa is grown, the world chocolate masters, and international cocoa award, an impressive 6-meter high chocolate bear. There’s something for everyone.
The Salon du Chocolat also hosted the World Chocolate Masters Finals, stunning chocolate sculptures around a nature theme.
